The OBP Universal Fuel Sender is a precision-engineered float arm sensor designed with a 6-hole top mount for easy installation. This sophisticated fuel sender is calibrated to provide an accurate electrical resistance of 260 Ohms when the tank is empty and 20 Ohms when it is full. This calibration closely resembles that of early Smith’s fuel level senders and is compatible with several Ford fuel sender models, particularly those used in the 1982-1986 Ford Sierra hatchback and saloon vehicles.

To ensure compatibility with your existing fuel gauge, it is essential to measure the resistance range of your current fuel sender unit. Start by disconnecting any wires connected to the sender and carefully remove it from the fuel tank, exercising caution if there is any residual fuel. Using a multimeter capable of measuring resistance in Ohms (Ω), attach one probe to a ground point and the other to the connector on the fuel sender. Take note of the resistance readings with the float positioned at the lowest point (empty) and the highest point (full). If the readings are approximately 260 Ohms when empty and 20 Ohms when full, your fuel gauge should work effectively with the OBP fuel sender.

Fitting the Fuel Sender:

Installing the OBP fuel sender is a straightforward process. Begin by cutting a 40mm diameter hole in the top of your fuel tank, followed by drilling six mounting holes for secure fitting. This standard 6-hole, top-mounted sender has a total length of 290mm from the top of the tank to the bottom of the float unit. The float arm mechanism is designed for simplicity and can be easily adjusted to the desired length, should you need it shorter. Each unit is supplied with fittings that connect seamlessly to a valve with female M10 x 1 ports, ensuring a reliable and leak-proof installation.
