Description

OBP Dual Signal Linear Potentiometer for Drive by Wire (DBW)

What is Drive-By-Wire (DBW)?

Drive-By-Wire (DBW) refers to a range of electronic systems that replace traditional mechanical controls. The most common application of this technology is in electronic throttle control. Instead of using mechanical linkages to operate the throttle pedal, DBW systems employ a series of electronic sensors that send signals to the ECU when the pedal is pressed.

With the increasing prevalence of DBW throttle pedals in modern race cars, it’s essential to convert the OBP pedal box into a DBW pedal box. This conversion involves removing the existing linkage behind the pedal and replacing it with a linear potentiometer that mounts behind the pedal arm and connects to the base box.

The OBP Linear Dual Core Potentiometer is a heavy-duty sensor designed specifically for motorsport applications, capable of withstanding numerous cycles.

Technical Specifications:
– Maximum Supply Voltage: 40 VDC
– Resolution: Infinite
– Repeatability: ≤ 0.01 mm
– Operational Speed: 10 m/s
– Mechanical Life: > 25 million cycles
– Recommended Wiper Current: < 10 μA
– Independent Linearity: ≤ +/- 0.5%
– Connection & Output Details: 6 Core Cable

Track 1
– Red: +V
– Black: 0V
– Yellow: Signal

Track 2
– Brown: +V
– Blue: 0V
– White: Signal

Displacement:
– Fully Closed: +Vmax
– Fully Open: 0V

The displacement signals can be reversed by swapping the connections of the Red and Black wires or the Brown and Blue wires, resulting in a +Vmax output when fully open and 0V when fully closed.

Important: Do not connect the +V supply to the Yellow or White (signal) wires, as this may cause damage to the sensor element.
