Team Rallynuts - Cambrian Rally Round-Up

28 February 2018  |  Nick James

The Rallynuts Duo of Paul Bonas and Craig Cameron piloted the Rallynuts Subaru Impreza to a 12th in Class (B13) at the Cambrian Rally on the 17th February.

The rally, which started and finished at Llandudno Promenade, also marked the opening round of both the British Trials and Rally Drivers Association national championship and the Welsh Forest Rally Championship.

For those of you that don’t know it was the 63rd Year of the event, which is the oldest of its kind of event in Wales. The event itself has always seen a good driver turn out and this year was no different with a very strong line up of drivers.

Going up against the likes of Osian Pryce and Matt Edwards, whom has been newly signed by M-Sport as a works driver for the MSA British Rally Championship, it was always going to be a tough weekend for honours for the Rallynuts pairing.

“We had a really strong start to the season with this rally, the car behaved well and as it should, we had a thorough shake down on the Friday prior to the rally and our expectations were good for the weekend. Even though we didn’t come away with any honours, we were very pleased with how the car performed and are looking forward to the rest of the season.” Craig Cameron – Co-Driver.

“After very limited seat time in 2017, I was really excited to get back in the driving seat of our Subaru Impreza, Stage 1 was a bit of a slippery affair, and we really struggled on Stage 2 as the conditions were very poor and we didn’t want to risk the car so early on in the Rally. We pushed on hard and had a good string of stages in the 3rd, 4th and 5th! For me, I think it is all about the getting more seat time to gain confidence behind the wheel.

The car behaved really well throughout the rally although it did give us a scare on the Friday before scrutineering when the car wasn’t starting, but after some diagnostic work and a bit of head scratching we got to the root of the problem and by 4pm we got too noise testing and scrutineering.

I am looking forward to getting back behind the wheel in March for the Mid-Wales Stages.” – Paul Bonas - Driver

The pair are back out on the 4th of March for the Mid-Wales Stages, so be sure to catch up with them if you are attending the event, or keep an eye out for our updates throughout the season.
